Historical centres of Minsk

Duration: 2.5-3 hrs

This excursion tells about the development of the historical enter of Minsk. You will get to know about the history of its birth, get acquainted with its past which consists of the periods of blossoming, wars and revival in turn. You will have a walk along the bank of river Svislach, will visit the place where Minsk Castle and the first Christian temple of the city once stood. The excursion will lead you to Freedom Square (the former Upper Market) that emerged in the XVI century as a cultural and political enter of Medieval Minsk and that still keeps the echo of Peter the Great and other famous people’s steps. Here you will visit the Holy Spirit Church, see the masons’ house, recently restored City Council Building (Ratusha) and Guests’ Corner, former monasteries and cathedrals of the XVII-XVIII centuries as well as other monuments in baroque and classicism style. The excursion finishes in October Square, in the modern official enter of the city, where the World War II Museum, the Memorial to the partisans, put to death by fascists, the Yanka Kupala National Drama Theatre are situated.
